Located a few hours from Entebbe by road, Lake Mburo National Park is the ideal stopover when going or coming from Western Uganda. With a variety of habitats, ranging from rocky outcrops to bushy thickets, savanna, forest and lakes. Lake Mburo National Park is great to see zebras, elands, impalas, buffalo and leopards.

Game Drives

Game drives in Lake Mburo tend to be quite gentle. Although there is plenty of wildlife, there are no major predators, except for leopards. The game drives give an opportunity to take in the spectacular scenery of rolling hills, and the five lakes that make up the park. Large numbers of herbivores tend to congregate at the lakes and swamps, making for excellent wildlife viewing.

Boat Trip on Lake Mburo

Boat Trips

Boat trips on Lake Mburo are a great way to observe the large populations of the Nile crocodiles and hippos up close. The numerous water birds around the lake , include various species of kingfisher, eagles, pelicans and occasionally the elusive shoebill stork.

Night Game Drives

Night game drives in Lake Mburo provide the best opportunity to see the shy leopards of the area, and also a chance to see rare nocturnal species, such as bush babies and porcupines.

Bush Walks

Bush Walks

Guided bush walks are very alluring in Lake Mburo as you are permitted to walk anywhere in the park with an armed ranger.

Horseback Safaris

Operated out of Mihingo Lodge, the horseback safaris here are exceptional. Tailored to suit your riding ability, it is possible to go out on safari for a few hours, or longer, to explore the park at your own pace. Overnight safaris can also be arranged with advance notice.

Best time to visit

Lake Mburo National Park can be visited all-year round. The smooth tarmac road from Kampala and the well maintained graded murram road makes getting to the park very easy.
The Dry season months of June to September and December to February makes wildlife viewing easy as the animals gather around the water holes, the lake and swamps to quench their thirst.
During the Wet season months of November and March to May the animals can be seen grazing in the valleys and fields.
