Hemingways Nairobi

Hemingways Nairobi

Since mid-March we’ve been confining ourselves at home in our apartment in Nairobi. Everyday pretty much staying and working at home except for the occasional weekly run for groceries. So in July for my husband Ravi’s birthday we decided to get away for the night, and though the getaway was to celebrate the birthday, it was also an excuse to spend the night away from our four walls, no cooking and cleaning, indulging in a relaxing warm bath (don’t judge me, I don’t have a bathtub at home) and be spoiled. I’m sure many of you feel the same way!

With the travel restrictions in place, traveling out of Nairobi was not possible, so we packed our overnight bag and headed across town to Karen and checked into Hemingways Nairobi for the night.

Upon arrival at Hemingways we underwent temperature screenings at the gate, our luggage was unloaded and disinfected. We were offered hand sanitizer and then continued onto the reception where we had already submitted our details for check in during the booking process, so we just had to collect our room key. The room key was sanitized in front of us. Our butler came around with the golf buggy and drove us to our room, our home for the night. Outside our door a seal stated “cleaned, disinfected and sealed for your protection”. The staff informed us they would limit coming into the room for turn down service, unless we requested it. Already feeling comfortable with all the measures in place we headed to the dining area for lunch. No menus on the table, instead the waiter informed us we had to scan the card on the table with a QR code to access the menu. It was wonderful to see Hemingways are doing their best to minimise contact. Our meals came individually plated and covered. All around the hotel hand sanitizers are available for the guests. All the staff wear masks and are very particular about maintaining social distancing. All in all, I felt very secure and comfortable staying at Hemingways with the health and safety measures they have in place.
As I live in Nairobi, I normally don’t stay at a local hotel, being too close to home, but I’m glad Ravi and I decided to get away for the night to Hemingways, it was totally rejuvenating. The lovely view of the Ngong Hills was a bonus too. I would highly recommend to take some time for yourself and be spoiled. I promise you, you’ll return home feeling relaxed, happier and more productive.
